Can You Believe It’s Here?
Summertime! It’s that time of the year again where a lot of us look forward to some extra fun in the sun or a family vacation with school’s being on break! Here on Oahu, the Hawaiian sun never really goes away, but there’s just something about the summertime that makes the beaches and pools so inviting. Take your pick of beaches to explore around the island from Yokohama beach on the West side, the famous Waikiki beach on the South shore, Lanikai beach on the east side, Waimea Bay on the North shore, and everything in between. Going to the beach just to jump in the water or lay out on the sand is great, but throw some good food with a BBQ, boogie board, surfboard, volleyball, football, frisbee, etc. into the mix and you’re set for an entire fun filled day.
For those that don’t prefer to spend long days at the beach, plan a day to take a drive around the island to explore well-known spots such as Pali lookout, Diamond Head crater, Makapu’u Lighthouse, and so much more. The views and the history from many of these locations are just breathtaking. I’m sure I speak for many people when I say it never gets old. While making the drive around the island, you can’t forget to make some stops for good eats at places like the famous shrimp trucks in Kahuku, Liliha bakery, Rainbow drive-in, and Fresh Catch just to name a few!
Looking for more to to do than just take a drive and make a few stops along the way? If you want to dive a little deeper into the Hawaiian culture, visit Iolani Palace, Bishop Museum, the Polynesian Culture Center, or attend a luau. You could also visit other historic places like Pearl Harbor and the Pacific Aviation Museum at Pearl Harbor where it sometimes feels like you’re taking a trip back in time. Other family friendly activities include going to Sea Life Park, the Waikiki Aquarium, the Honolulu Zoo, or the Wet n’ Wild Hawaii park.
Keep in mind these are just a few of many things to plan for the summer time. Whether it be for an individual, couple, or family, it’s always good to take some time and plan a little fun adventure. Which will you do first?
